We head north towards the Grand Hotel. Yes, the porch is still the longest covered porch in the world, you can see it coming over on the ferryboat. Up, up, up the hill we travel seeing the Governers Summer House on Mackinaw Island.
Then further up the hill to the half way point of the tour.
When we got back to town we find the Murray House for a lunc
I go to the butterfly garden and look at all the beautiful butterflies, before we board another carriage ride into the state park portion of the island.
We travel past many old beautiful summer homes (more like huge, huge island homes) and towards Arch Rock.
Back at the halfway point we return to the fancier carriage to head back into town.
When we got back to town we find the Murray House for a lunc
h. It is cool, they have a/c, and we enjoy a nice quiet lunch. After lunch we head back out to Main Street and finish our walk down to the other end before we head back to the docks and the ferryboat ride back to the mainland.
When we get back to the car we try to get closer to Big Mac to get photos.
Got a few good pix of the old Makinaw Point Lighthouse, too!!
Then we head down the Huron shoreline all the way to Cheboygan before returning to our campsite. A very enjoyable day.....probably one of the best of visiting old haunts.
