Friday, we're on the road again. This
is when we parted company...Jo-D & C.J. heading to Natchez,
Mississippi, then onto New Orleans area, while Tom and Nancy headed
to Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma. When we got off I40 near Lake Eufaula we
couldn't believe the roads...terrible! But we found the Corp of
Engineers park and it was love at first sight. The site was level,
long and lots of trees. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights. We
drove to the little town of Checotah, where Carrie Underwood of
American Idol fame grew up.
Sunday it was on to Oklahoma City, only
110 miles away.. We located a campground on the west side of town..
(Tom's Mom is on the east side of town, 15 miles away). Little did we
know we would have such a hard time finding a campground. The NCAA
Women's softball championships were being played in OKC. All the
good campgrounds were booked up solid. Sunday afternoon we went into
town and visited with Elaine. We took her out to the motorhome so
she could see it....she was impressed! Then after taking her out to
eat we took her back home.
Monday we toured the Oklahoma State
Capitol. We took the self guided tour and saw another great
building. Not so lucky here as to have any senators take our hand
and show us around.
After touring there we went to the Murrah
memorial. It really makes you stop and think of the terror right
here at home. Breath taking and very somber.
Monday afternoon we took Elaine
shopping. Her clothes were hanging on her. We helped her pick out
and bought her several outfits of new clothes She went from a size
12 to an 8 petite. Now she is set for awhile. She is doing fine,
but we noticed that her short term memory is not good at all. She
was 90 on May 3rd. I sure hope I am doing as well when I
reach that age.
Monday evening we took Tom's nephew Ben
and his family to dinner. Ben, Jennifer, Cooper and Landry are a
delightful family. Cooper is 6 and reminds me of his uncle Shane in
looks. Landry, 3 lookes just like his Daddy. Jennifer is pregnant
and another son, to be names Slade, is on the way,. We stayed a long
time after dinner talking with Ben and Jennifer and getting to learn
all about them and their family.
